Bookmaking

Bookmaking is yet another obsession. I make books from anything and everything. Found text, photographs, drawings and prints are often re-bound in old antiquated book covers.

There are pages here are from Volume One of the collected lyrics of my band The Hurtful Taunts. Every page is made using different techniques and ways of presenting type. I often use it as a teaching aid to encourage writers to do away with the lined page and turn text into readable artwork.

Another obsession of photographing lost gloves led to my making another book. I chose a particularly unloved and dilapidated old leather-bound cover to rebind with as its aged and uncared for look fitted perfectly with the lost images that were to go within. The photos are also great starting points for creative writing. Who did they belong to? How were they lost? Are they missed?

But books don’t have been bound pages in a cover. Other images on this page show ‘books’ created as fashion, pages in boxes,  map books. Books can be made of fabric, as something to walk or crawl into or whatever your imagination dictates.
